The Dock's Cafe in Antwerp

Fast Response Reduces Business Interruption

Dock’s Café, a popular restaurant on Antwerp’s Jordaenskaai, reopened just five weeks after a fire. BELFOR Belgium responded within hours and helped the business return to normal as quickly as possible.

The fire occurred during the night of 29 March 2010. BELFOR Belgium received the emergency call the next morning and immediately sent a team to the site.

Restaurant Fire Damage Restoration Starts the Same Day

By early afternoon, the first recovery work was underway. BELFOR removed vulnerable contents, secured equipment, installed dehumidifiers, and started the restoration process.

The restaurant’s unique interior required special care. Copper surfaces were restored individually. Some were polished to restore their shine, while others kept their original patina to preserve the restaurant’s character. The original wooden bar was also carefully restored.

Coordinated Restoration Speeds Up Recovery

BELFOR managed the entire restaurant fire damage restoration project. The team coordinated electricians, plumbers, restoration specialists, and cleaning crews.

Work included restoring the kitchen, electrical equipment, and wine storage area. BELFOR also removed damaged food products and carefully cleaned around 250 crates of branded glasses and plates.

Restaurant Reopens After Five Weeks

Close cooperation between all parties helped keep the project on schedule. While restoration work continued, the restaurant team prepared the kitchen for reopening.

Just five weeks after the fire, Dock’s Café welcomed guests again. The project shows how fast and well-planned restaurant fire damage restoration can reduce downtime and help businesses recover after a fire.

BELFOR’s strengths:

Disasters don’t look at the clock before they strike. But as soon as they do, every second counts! That’s why we’re on site as quickly as possible to prevent anything worse happening – 24 hours a day, all around the world.
